John Mill- April 4, 1971

John Mill was a teacher in the early 1800’s, despite a handicap and with no college degree.  During these years a college degree was not required.  This did no stop Mill being in complete control of his students.

There was no “system” in the early years of the city schools, which was when Mill was teaching.  Each school was operated and was presided over by the teacher, which had to enlist their own students by calling the parents.  Parents had to agree on paying a specified amount for the training of their children.  The teachers, such as Mill, would not get paid until the end of the term.
